High Performance Encoding
High-Performance EncodingDelivering video services to millions of households with the limited bandwidth typical of xDSL networks, requires highquality, high-reliability, low-bitrate encoding. Harmonic’s family of DiviCom™ Electra™ encoders offers that, plus a high channel density, which considerably reduces the cost per channel, as well as an all-IP architecture for maximum flexibility. The DiviCom Electra encoders are equipped with all the features required for a broadcast environment (e.g. closed caption, Teletext) as well as for IPTV (e.g. PIP, Digital Program Insertion), which facilitates integration into existing Broadcast ecosystems (e.g. DVB, ATSC). New features such as Capped Variable BitRate (CVBR) further improve network efficiency while maintaining optimum video quality and leaving more bandwidth for Internet services on the access side. Operators who don't use I-frame acceleration or other techniques to provide Instant Channel Change (ICC) will benefit from Harmonic encoders' constrained GOP length capabilities that allow faster channel change without jeopardizing picture quality. The Electra 5400 and Electra 7000 share the same 1RU platform, easing any future transition from SD to HD.
Standard DefinitionThe DiviCom Electra 5400 encoder is Harmonic’s latest multi-codec, multi-service standard definition (SD) encoding platform designed to address the demand for high-quality advanced video and audio services at ultra-low bitrates. Capable of delivering up to four full resolution and multiple low resolution SD channels, it can be used to offer multiple services including Picture-in-Picture and mobile video.
High DefinitionSimilarly, the DiviCom Electra 7000 is Harmonic’s latest multi-channel, multi-service high definition (HD) MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 encoder. This 1RU encoding system supports up to four full resolution HD channels and simultaneously low resolution SD channels for PIP, program guides or multi-channel mosaics while producing outstanding video quality at ultra-low bitrates. |
