Broadcasters and Operators are looking forward to address the early adopters of Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV sets. The pace is accelerating, and we are proud that the ViBE 4K was selected for its video quality to cover several premieres this year, such as the French Open, the Opening of the Holy Door in Vatican and also El Clásico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Indeed, last November 21, Telefónica, one of the world’s largest providers of telecommunications and pay TV services, offered the match to UHD TV subscribers over its Movistar+ fiber-to-the-home network. For El Clásico match, Spanish production company Mediapro supplied 4K feeds from 12 in-stadium cameras to the Telefónica production facilities, where the signal was encoded in HEVC using the ViBE 4K and transmitted for final distribution to Movistar+ subscribers equipped with Samsung UHD smart TVs.
UHD is the next evolution of TV, and media organizations like Telefónica are ushering in the UHD/4K age with broadcast events such as the recent El Clásico match. As the first sport event in Spain to be broadcast live in UHD over fiber, this was a landmark event and provided a major IPTV reference for Thomson Video Networks. At only 1RU, the ViBE 4K packs a lot of power in a compact footprint, and its ability to deliver outstanding picture quality at any bitrate made it the perfect solution for Telefónica to deliver the optimal UHDTV viewing experience to subscribers.
