VOS® Media Software is created from the ground up as a cloud-native platform for video processing and delivery. It's built with docker containers and microservices, using Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift orchestration.

By connecting the relevant microservices, VOS® Media Software’s customers can execute any broadcast and streaming workflows on their private cloud. Sophisticated redundancy capabilities at any levels (node, channel, input and cluster) ensure a 5x9 uptime.

 

VOS MEDIA SOFTWARE

NVIDIA Holoscan for Media is an AI-enabled, software-defined platform that allows live media and video pipelines to run on the same infrastructure as AI applications. The platform enhances media production and delivery workflows by leveraging NVIDIA accelerated computing and provides a robust ecosystem of developer applications deployed on Red Hat OpenShift, the orchestration software operating atop the underlying hardware.

Customers define their video workflows by assembling cloud-native microservices in VOS Media Software. These microservices handle live and file content ingest, the creation of linear TV channels by scheduling live and pre-recorded segments, branding, premium-quality encoding and distribution to direct-to-consumer platforms, affiliates or service providers.

File and live ingest

The ingest phase is where raw media content enters the workflow. Whether it’s RAW footage, SMPTE 2110 or MPEG-TS media, the system efficiently ingests and processes a variety of popular broadcast-grade file and live input formats. NVIDIA-accelerated hardware ensures that all media types are seamlessly integrated into the pipeline and ready for further processing steps.

File and live processing

In the processing phase, the file and live content undergo transformation and enhancement in preparation for final distribution. VOS Media Software running on NVIDIA Holoscan for Media supports a range of critical processing capabilities that can benefit from GPU acceleration:

  • Playout: Live and file content is scheduled based on a playlist that can be either manually edited via an easy-to-use, intuitive UI or downloaded by an external traffic or automation system. This playout capability allows the origination of a linear TV channel.
  • Graphics and effects: Real-time, advanced graphics using HTML5 are applied dynamically to any linear TV channels, enhancing viewer engagement with visual elements such as overlays, static or animated logos and digital video effects like double box, squeeze back, etc.
  • Premium encoding: Linear TV channels are transcoded in SD, HD and UHD formats, with MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC, HEVC or VVC codecs for broadcast and OTT delivery, providing groundbreaking video quality at the lowest possible bit rates and latency.
  • Captioning: AI-powered captioning ensures live captions are generated accurately and in real time, expanding accessibility for broader audiences.
  • Multiplexing, packaging and encryption: Originated linear TV channels can be multiplexed together to create an MPTS or packaged using the standard streaming formats (DASH, HLS and CMAF). Ad break signaling is managed using SCTE-35 messages, to allow downstream ad insertion. Multi-CAS and Multi-DRM solutions are used to protect any stream before delivery.

Distribution

The distribution phase ensures that the processed linear TV channels are delivered across a wide range of platforms using standard and robust delivery mechanisms such as SRT and streaming protocols, enabling primary distribution, broadcast and/or streaming use cases.

For OTT video workflows, VOS Media Software manages streaming services such as VoD, timeshift TV, Replay TV and nPVR in combination with all the major, already integrated CMS solutions available in the market.
